The Stressors Working Moms Faced During the Pandemic (& How to Offer Support Now to Help Them Recover)

Being a working mom during the pandemic was tough…

Lincoln Park Therapy Group Founder Nicolle Osequeda is featured in this Chicago Tribune article talking about the unique challenges of being a working mom during the pandemic. How the Pandemic Has Affected America’s Working Moms explores the challenging realities many working mothers faced during the pandemic, like the pressure to leave the workforce, outdated gender roles, and unequal treatment at work.

As Nicolle said in the article, society’s expectation that women put family first created even more pressure for working moms during the pandemic. This led to women taking on more responsibility at home, which only increased the stressors on working moms and took its toll on their mental health and well-being.

This article also explores other ways the pandemic caused working moms to leave the workforce and the repercussions that led to, including:

  • systemic biases against working moms
  • lack of support for moms
  • challenges with childcare needs
  • changes in personal identity

It also talks about the potential for lasting change due to the pandemic and ways we can better support working moms. To read the full article, How the Pandemic has Affected America’s Working Moms, click here.

If you’re a working mom or a stay-at-home mom who’s experiencing heightened stress, identity challenges, anxiety, or depression due to the pandemic, schedule a time to come in and talk with one of our therapists. We’d love to meet you.
