GET TO KNOW YOUR THERAPIST

Kaitlin (Katie) Nelson

Katie Nelson, MA, LPC

I BELIEVE THERAPY SHOULD BE A COLLABORATIVE, DYNAMIC, AND AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE FOR EVERY CLIENT.

Lincoln Park Therapy Group | Chicago

WHY I BECAME A THERAPIST

I believe in a holistic approach to therapy and the power of a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship. I practice from a person-centered lens where you are in the driver’s seat, and believe my role is to help you explore your experiences, build mindful coping tools, and access your creativity. I strive to create a warm and inclusive space where clients feel seen, heard, and validated in their own lived experience.

I BECAME A THERAPIST TO SUPPORT PEOPLE IN GROWTH, HEALING, AND ACHIEVING THEIR GOALS.

I BELIEVE THAT EVERYBODY CAN USE SOME ADDED SUPPORT FROM TIME TO TIME. WHEN WE WORK TOGETHER, I STRIVE TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY YOUR GOALS, EXPLORE THE OBSTACLES HOLDING YOU BACK IN LIFE, AND MEET YOU WHERE YOU ARE AT TO HEAL AND WORK TOWARD THE MOST AUTHENTIC VERSION OF YOU.

Therapy is a supportive environment where you can express yourself without judgment. As a therapist, I am here to help clients find their unique voices, explore the roles they play in their worlds, and rewrite their stories. I also use creativity in my sessions, in addition to traditional talk therapy, to help clients find deeper exploration of the self. The therapy process helps empower you to create profound, long-lasting positive changes, that translate into greater well-being in all areas of your life.

When I work with clients, I incorporate THREE THINGS to create positive change:

creativity | validation | authenticity

With warmth, empathy and trust, I create a non-judgmental space for clients to share their unique story. Through compassion and creativity, I support my clients to discover their values and unique personality traits. Together we identify thoughts, behaviors, and relational patterns that may contribute to present day distress.

DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN CREATIVITY EVERY SESION?

Nope! While I will offer creative opportunities in sessions, you are always allowed to say no. If any part of session is feeling inauthentic or not working for you, I invite you to share and will frequently check in to make sure our therapeutic process is aligned with your goals.
