WHY I BECAME A THERAPIST

 As a therapist, I believe therapy should use an integrative approach that best fits the needs of the client. I understand it is difficult to begin talking about what is causing us pain and work hard to create a safe and comfortable space for my clients. I integrate skill building, creative expression and coping strategies to foster healing, growth and mental well-being.

I BECAME A THERAPIST TO PROVIDE A SPACE WHERE PEOPLE CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE, HOPEFUL AND TRULY UNDERSTOOD. 

The therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is built on trust. It provides a safe space for self-Reflection, Clarification of values AND personal GROWTH. Through SHARING YOUR story, you will gain insight, UNDERSTANDING AND learn how you can best cope with life stressors.

The therapeutic process can be an insightful and meaningful experience that can provide you with the space for self-reflection and shift how you perceive yourself and your world.

When I work with clients, I incorporate THREE THINGS to create positive change:

I create a safe space where you can feel safe, validated, and comfortable expressing yourself. I utilize an integrative approach that incorporates of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Creative Arts Therapy, along with traditional talk therapy. This approach offers opportunities to gain insight into limiting beliefs, identify distress tolerance skills, and establish a basis for change. Together we will identify goals and establish a plan for meeting those goals.
 
I integrate Brené Brown’s powerful research of vulnerability, courage, shame, and empathy in my work with clients, utilizing techniques and strategies to help individuals integrate these concepts into their personal and professional lives.

WHO I WORK WITH

I work with teens and adults, and specialize in people experiencing anxiety, depression,  challenging life transitions, Quarter-Life Crisis, and symptoms of PTSD from trauma.

My area of expertise is working with young adults in the midst of a transition-relationships, employment or geographic- who are feeling uncertain about what the future holds.

WHAT IF I'M NOT ABLE TO DESCRIBE HOW I'M FEELING?

I believe in meeting a client where they feel comfortable in our therapeutic work together. If you’re uncomfortable or not quite ready to open up, that is perfectly fine! Talking about your feelings can feel uncomfortable at first. Through creativity, warmth and expressive arts, I help you explore difficult emotions, develop self- awareness and cope with life’s stressors. Together we will increase your self-awareness, support you in finding clarity in your values that will ultimately lead to a more enjoyable and gratifying life.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME & MY PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

  • I received my Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling a Valparaiso University.
  • I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Expressive Arts Therapy.
  • I completed a 27.5 hour Living Brave course from Brené Brown focusing on Vulnerability, Courage, Shame, and Empathy based on Daring Greatly and Rising Strong programs.
